Award for Outstanding Contribution to PADE

This award recognizes a significant contribution to the growth and development of the association through service as a committee member, chairperson, state officer, or coordinator of a major PADE activity.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Nomination Form

  2. Letter of Nomination (summarizing the nominee's contribution to PADE - limit two pages)

  3. Letter of endorsement from a current or former PADE officer (limit one page)

  4. Resume of the nominee

  5. Supporting information must include pertinent materials such as the following:

    - letters

    - flyers

    - other materials which support the contribution of the nominee to PADE

Award for Outstanding Developmental Program

This award recognizes a developmental program which exemplifies the best of current practice in the field of developmental education.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Nomination Form

  2. Letter of Nomination summarizing strengths and achievements of developmental program (limit two pages)

  3. Letter of endorsement from PADE

  4. Letters of support from (limit one page per letter)

    1. Three students

    2. Two campus administrators and/or other members of the college community

    3. Two members of the developmental program

    4. Two faculty or staff members outside the developmental area

  5. Description of the program, including quantitative data and highlighting unique features, components, etc. (limit seven pages)

  6. Copies of program brochures, flyers, other publicity materials (limit five pages)

  7. Copies of regional/national program recognition awards (limit five pages)

Outstanding Alumnus of a Developmental Education Program

This award honors a person who participated in a developmental program and then became an outstanding member of a profession and/or a contributing member to his or her community, thereby exemplifying the effectiveness of developmental education.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Nomination Form

  2. Letter of Nomination (limit two pages)

  3. A letter of endorsement from a developmental education practitioner. This letter must be from a developmental educator who taught the nominee and must include specific information about the developmental education courses which the nominee completed.

  4. Resume of the nominee

  5. Supporting material must include the following:

    1. Information detailing the nominee's activities and contributions to a profession and/or community

    2. Two letters from community organizations regarding the nominee's contributions (limit one page per letter)

    3. Two letters from the nominee's employers and/or instructors (limit one page per letter)

Outstanding Research or Publication Award

This award recognizes the individual or individuals who have authored a published article, book, periodical, or monograph in the field of developmental education. (Dissertations are not considered for this award.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Nomination Form

  2. Letter of Nomination summarizing the significance of the research findings or publications to field of developmental education (limit two pages)

  3. Two letters of endorsement from a developmental education practitioner (limit one page per letter)

  4. Resume of the nominee(s)

  5. Supporting material may include the following:

  1. Samples of articles, monographs, journals, or newsletter articles

  2. Summary of research conducted

  3. Copies of book review with sources noted

Outstanding Service to Developmental Students

This award recognizes a developmental educator whose work on behalf of developmental students exemplifies the developmental education philosophy.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Nomination Form

  2. Letter of nomination, including identification of student populations the nominee served or is currently serving (limit two pages)

  3. Letter of endorsement from the state organization

  4. Resume of the nominee

  5. Supporting material must include the following: (limit one page per letter)

  1. Three letters from students

  2. One letter from administrator, faculty, and/or colleague

  3. One letter from developmental studies faculty member

  4. One letter from a colleague outside the developmental area

  5. Clippings or other information detailing the nominee's impact upon developmental students (limit ten pages)

Outstanding Support to Developmental Education by a College Administrator and/or Public Servant

This award recognizes a college administrator and/or public servant who has demonstrated support of the philosophy of developmental education and of developmental education programs.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Nomination Form

  2. Letter of Nomination from PADE (limit two pages)

  3. Information detailing contributions to developmental education (include most recent newspaper articles, professional publications or formal public presentations supporting developmental education)

  4. Resume of the nominee (indicate professional affiliations that relate to developmental education)

  5. Three letters of support (i.e. director/ instructor in a developmental education program, developmental education student, community leader - limit two pages per letter)

Exemplary Teaching in Developmental Education

This award is designed to honor an educator who has demonstrated a track record of effective teaching with developmental education students. Within the context of the criteria and the required submission materials, nominees are expected to demonstrate to the Awards Committee how their teaching is exemplary. General criteria:

(1)  nominee must have a minimum of three years of successful teaching of developmental education courses/students at the post-secondary level;

(2)  "teaching" is defined as formal classroom-based
instruction, whether the course be credit or non-credit;

(3)  nominee must be current PADE member.

(Note: Although counseling/advising and professional tutoring are also teaching endeavors in a broad sense, this award is not designed to honor exemplary work in those responsibilities.  The "Outstanding Service to Developmental Education Students" award is an appropriate avenue for recognizing exemplary service in these areas.)

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Nomination Form

  2. Resume of the nominee

  3. One-page statement of teaching philosophy

  4. Two-page (maximum) letter of nomination which characterizes the nominee's teaching and which shows the relationship between the nominee's teaching philosophy and his/her actual teaching

  5. An official summary of formal teaching evaluationgs by student, and if available, by colleagues, and/or supervisors

  6. Two letters of support written by developmental educators familiar with the nominee's teaching

  7. Other support documentation as the candidate deems relevant. (Other support documentation is limited to five pages, and may include, for example, letters from students and/or the success rates of students in follow-up or concurrent courses for which the instruction is appropriate.)
