Award for Outstanding Contribution to PADE

This award recognizes a significant contribution to the growth and development of the association through service as a committee member, chairperson, state officer, or coordinator of a major PADE activity.  Nominees must meet the following criteria:

  • Member of PADE for at least five consecutive years; and

  • Service as member of the board for at lest one full term; and

  • Chair a major committee (conference, political action, membership) or coordinate a major activity such as regional conferences or fundraising events; and/or

  • Effective service as an executive officer for at  least one full term.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Nomination Form

  2. Letter of Nomination (summarizing the nominee's contribution to PADE - limit two pages)

  3. Letter of endorsement from a current or former PADE officer (limit one page)

  4. Resume of the nominee
    Additional materials (maximum three) that provide evidence of meeting the criteria stated above.

Award for Outstanding Developmental Program

This award recognizes a developmental program which exemplifies the best of current practice in the field of developmental education.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Nomination Form

  2. Nomination letter summarizing strengths and achievements of the developmental program (limit two pages)

  3. Description of the program, including mission statement, quantitative data, delivery systems, and highlighting unique features, components, etc. (limit seven pages)

  4. Additional materials (at least three, but no more than six) may include the following:

  1. Letters of support from students (limit one page per letter)

  2. Letters of support from a campus administrator and/or other members of the college community (limit one page per letter)

  3. Copies of program brochures, flyers, and other publicity materials.

  4. Copies of regional/national program recognition awards.

Outstanding Alumnus of a Developmental Education Program

This award honors a former participant in a developmental who is a leader in her/his profession and/or has a record of outstanding contribution of her/his community.  Nominees must meet the following criteria:

  • Have been graduated or transferred from the institution sponsoring the home developmental program.

  • Nomination must be made at least ten years after graduation date.

  • Evidence of leadership in the profession, such as elected office in professional organization, outstanding performance awards, community recognition for volunteer service, consistent contribution to a service organization.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Nomination Form

  2. Letter of nomination (limit two pages)

  3. A letter of endorsement from a developmental education practitioner. This letter must be from a developmental educator (director, counselor, teacher, etc.) who can attest to the nominee's completion of developmental coursework in the program and must include specific information about the developmental education courses which the nominee completed.

  4. Resume or professional summary of the nominee

  5. Additional materials (maximum three) that provide evidence of meeting the criteria stated above, e.g. copies of awards, newspaper clippings, supporting letter from employer.

Outstanding Research or Publication Award

This award recognizes the individual or individuals who have authored a published article, book, periodical, or monograph in the field of developmental education. (Dissertations are not considered for this award.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Nomination Form

  2. Letter of Nomination summarizing the significance of the research findings or publications to field of developmental education (limit two pages)

  3. Two letters of endorsement from a developmental education practitioner (limit one page per letter)

  4. Resume of the nominee(s)

  5. Supporting material may include the following:

  1. Samples of articles, monographs, journals, or newsletter articles

  2. Summary of research conducted

  3. Copies of book review with sources noted

Outstanding Service to Developmental Students

This award recognizes a developmental educator whose work reflects commitment to the needs of developmental students that exemplifies best practices in developmental education. Nominees must meet the following criteria.

  • Must be currently working in a developmental program or a related service; and

  • Have worked in developmental education or a related service area for at least five years; and

  • Be responsible for an innovation in the filed, coordination of a program that has significant impact on students, or leading advocacy efforts on behalf of developmental students.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Nomination Form

  2. Letter of nomination, including identification of student populations the nominee served or is currently serving (limit two pages)

  3. Resume of the nominee

  4. Additional documentation (at least three, but no more than six) may include the following:

  5. Letters from students (limit one page per letter)

  6. Letter from administrator, faculty, and/or colleague (limit one page per letter)

  7. Reports, clippings or other evidence detailing the nominee's impact upon developmental students

Outstanding Support to Developmental Education by a College Administrator and/or Public Servant

This award recognizes a college administrator and/or public servant who has a track record of support for developmental education.  Nominees must meet the following criteria:

Hold an administrative or public position which has influence over developmental education.

Has provided consistent support for developmental education in a tangible significant manner, e.g. secure funding, sponsor legislations, expand level of support, public advocacy for developmental students outside own institution.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Nomination Form

  2. Letter of Nomination that details contributions to developmental education

  3. Resume of the nominee or professional summary of the nominee

  4. Additional materials (maximum three) may include letters of support, recent newspaper articles, professional publications, record of formal public presentations, institutional reports, or other evidence of advocacy.

Exemplary Teaching in Developmental Education

This award is designed to honor an educator who has demonstrated a track record of effective teaching with developmental education students. Nominees must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a minimum of three years of teaching developmental education courses/students, and

  • Provide evidence of successful teaching, such as student or peer classroom evaluations

(Note: Although counseling/advising and professional tutoring are also teaching endeavors in a broad sense, this award is not designed to honor exemplary work in those responsibilities.  The "Outstanding Service to Developmental Education Students" award is an appropriate avenue for recognizing exemplary service in these areas.)

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Nomination Form

  2. Nomination letter (two-page maximum) which characterizes the nominee's teaching and shows the relationship between the nominees' teaching philosophy and his/her performance.

  3. Resume or professional summary of the nominee

  4. One-page statement of teaching philosophy

  5. Additional materials (three maximum) may include an official report of formal teaching evaluations by students, colleagues, or supervisors; letters of support, assessment data that documents evidence of impact on student performance.
