AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO PADE

This award recognizes a significant contribution to the growth and development of the association through service as a committee member, chairperson, state officer, or coordinator of a major PADE activity. Nominees must meet the following criteria:

• Member of PADE for at least five consecutive years; and
• Service as member of the board for at least one full term; and
• Active membership in a board sponsored committee or coordinator of a regional or annual conference; and/or
• Effective service as an executive officer for at least one full term.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Nomination Form WORD of .pdf
2. Nomination letter summarizing strengths and achievements of the developmental program (limit two pages)
3. Description of the program, including mission statement, quantitative data, delivery systems, and highlighting unique features, components, etc. (limit seven pages)
4. Additional materials- must include three out of the following:
5. Letters of support from students (limit one page per letter)

AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM

This award recognizes a developmental program which exemplifies the best of current practice in the field of developmental education.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Nomination Form WORD of .pdf
• Nomination letter summarizing strengths and achievements of the developmental program (limit two pages)
• Description of the program, including mission statement, quantitative data, delivery systems, and highlighting unique features, components, etc. (limit seven pages)
• Additional materials- must include three out of the following:

1. Letters of support from students (limit one page per letter)
2. Letters of support from a campus administrator and/or other members of the college community (limit one page per letter)
3. Copies of program brochures, flyers, and other publicity materials.
4. Copies of regional/national program recognition awards.

AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ALUMNUS OF A DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAM

This award honors a former participant in a developmental program who is a leader in her/his profession and/or has a record of outstanding contribution of her/his community.

Nominees must meet the following criteria:

• Have been graduated or transferred from the institution sponsoring the home developmental program.
• Evidence of leadership in the profession, such as elected office in professional organization, outstanding performance awards, community recognition for volunteer service, consistent contribution to a service organization.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Nomination Form WORD or .pdf
• Letter of nomination (limit two pages)
• A letter of endorsement from a developmental education practitioner. This letter must be from a developmental educator (director, counselor, teacher, etc.) who can attest to the nominee’s completion of developmental coursework in the program and must include specific information about the developmental education courses which the nominee completed.
• Resume or professional summary of the nominee
• Additional materials- one from both of the following that provide evidence of meeting the criteria stated above:

a.  e.g. copies of awards or newspaper clipping
b.  supporting letter from employer.

AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING RESEARCH OR PUBLICATION

This award recognizes the individual or individuals who have authored a published article, book, periodical, or monograph in the field of developmental education. (Dissertations are not considered for this award.)
REQUIREMENTS:

• Nomination Form WORD or .pdf
• Letter of Nomination summarizing the significance of the research findings or publications to field of developmental education (limit two pages)
• Resume of professional summary of the nominee(s)
• Supporting material must include two of the following;

1. Samples of articles, monographs, journals, or newsletter articles
2. Summary of research conducted
3. Copies of book review with sources noted

AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO DEVELOPMENTAL STUDENTS

This award recognizes a developmental educator whose work reflects commitment to the needs of developmental students that exemplifies best practices in developmental education. Nominees must meet the following criteria.
REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be currently working in a developmental program or a related service; and
• Have worked in developmental education or a related service area for at least five years; and
• Be responsible for an innovation in the filed, coordination of a program that has significant impact on students, or leading advocacy efforts on behalf of developmental students.

APPLICATION MATERIALS:

1. Nomination Form WORD or .pdf
2. Letter of nomination, including identification of student populations the nominee served or is currently serving (limit two pages)
3. Resume of the nominee
4. Additional documentation- must include a minimum of one from each of the following:

a. Letters from students (limit one page per letter
b. Letter from administrator, faculty, and/or colleague (limit one page per letter)
c. Reports, clippings or other evidence detailing the nominee’s impact upon developmental students

AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING SUPPORT TO DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION BY A COLLEGE ADMINISTRATOR AND/OR PUBLIC SERVANT

This award recognizes a college administrator and/or public servant who has a track record of support for developmental education.  Nominees must meet the following criteria:

• Hold an administrative or public position which has influence over developmental education.
• Has provided consistent support for developmental education in a tangible significant manner, e.g. secure funding, sponsor legislation, expand level of support, public advocacy for developmental students outside own institution.

APPLICATION MATERIALS:

2. Letter of Nomination that details contributions to developmental education
3. Resume or professional summary of the nominee
4. Additional materials must include one from each of the following:

a. recent newspaper articles, professional publications
b. record of formal public presentations
c. institutional reports, or other evidence of advocacy

AWARD FOR EXEMPLARY TEACHING IN DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION

This award is designed to honor an educator who has demonstrated a track record of effective teaching with developmental education students.
REQUIREMENTS:

• Have a minimum of three years of teaching developmental education courses/students, and
• Provide evidence of successful teaching, such as student or peer classroom evaluations
• (Note: Although counseling/advising and professional tutoring are also teaching endeavors in a broad sense, this award is not designed to honor exemplary work in those responsibilities.  The “Outstanding Service to Developmental Education Students” award is an appropriate avenue for recognizing exemplary service in these areas.)

APPLICATION MATERIALS:

1. Nomination Form WORD or  .pdf
2. Nomination letter (two-page maximum) which characterizes the nominee’s teaching and shows the relationship between the nominees’ teaching philosophy and his/her performance.
3. Resume or professional summary of the nominee
4. One-page statement of teaching philosophy
5. Additional materials must include one from each of the following:

a. student evaluations of formal teaching practice
b. classroom observation conducted by a peer or supervisor
c. assessment data that documents evidence of impact on student performance

AWARD FOR STUDENT EXCELLENCE IN DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION

This $500 award is to honor the academic achievement of a student in a Developmental Education program.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Completed at least two developmental courses
• Completed at least twenty-four credits (developmental courses included)
• Attained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.
• Must be a current undergraduate student in Pennsylvania at the time of nomination

APPLICATION MATERIALS:

2. Must be nominated by a current PADE member
3. Submit official transcript
4. Letters of recommendation from at least two of your developmental instructors (limit 2 pgs.)
5. Letter of recommendation from the developmental program director or professional staff member (limit 2 pgs.)
6. Photograph in digital jpg. Format
7. The $500 award check will be given to the Program Director for disbursal to the student.

PADE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTAL SCHOLARSHIP

This $1,500 scholarship is intended to assist in defraying expenses to the Kellogg Institute, Advanced Kellogg or T.I.D.E. (Technology Institute for Developmental Education).

APPLICATION MATERIALS:

1. Application Cover Form WORD or .pdf
2. A letter from the applicant (limit 2 pages) stating
3. Length of membership in PADE
4. Number of years and type of experience in Developmental Education
5. Anticipated impact on how this participation will contribute to personal professional development and to the Developmental Education program where nominee is currently employed
6. Affirmation to be a presenter at the annual state or a regional conference within three years of their completion of Kellogg, Advanced Kellogg or T.I.D.E.
7. Two letters of support from supervisors, colleagues, faculty and/or administrators.
8. Letter of administrative financial support or other assurance of financial commitment for the nominee to attend the Kellogg Institute, Advanced Kellogg or T.I.D.E.
9. Resume or professional summary

PRIMARY CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:

• Acceptance to Kellogg Institute, Advanced Kellogg or T.I.D.E. for the year of the award
• PADE membership
• Two or more years as an educator or administrator in a Developmental Education Program
• Current employment as an educator or administrator in a Developmental Education Program
• Preference will be given to those who have not attended Kellogg, Advanced Kellogg or T.I.D.E.

SECONDARY CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:

• Active participation in PADE as demonstrated by attendance at the state or regional conference or a leadership role as member of the PADE Board, committee member or chair of a state or regional conference.
• Presenter at the annual state or a regional conference within the last five years.
